Scam Alert – Overcharging Tourists, Cash-Only Demands, and Dishonest Practices

While visiting Mallorca, I had an awful experience with this mechanic that other travelers should be warned about. For just 2 hours of work, he charged us 100 euros, with no proper breakdown or receipt. Local labor rates are usually 25–30 euros/hour, so this was clearly an inflated tourist price.

To make matters worse, he refused to accept credit cards without adding a 20% surcharge, claiming it was to cover card fees — which is absolutely not standard practice. When we offered to pay via IBAN (bank transfer), he shamed us and insisted on cash only, which felt suspicious and unprofessional.

This kind of behavior — taking advantage of tourists, especially women — is unacceptable and unethical. It damages the reputation of the local community and makes people feel unsafe.

Travelers, be careful. Ask for a quote in advance, get a breakdown in writing, and don’t be afraid to walk away if things feel off. Avoid this mechanic if you value honesty and fair treatment.

Super netter Inhaber. Am Mittwochmorgen das Fahrzeug, ohne Termin, mit Benzingeruch gebracht. Mittags die Diagnose erhalten. Teil muss bestellt werden. Auto soll Freitag fertig sein. Donnerstagmittag die Info erhalten, coche reparado. Schneller gehts nicht!!! Gracias.
